Job hunting has never been easy – no matter what level of work you are looking for, and it can be especially difficult for students who are usually very unsure of how to go about securing work. Our app and website contains the most up to date methods and ideas that will allow you to stand out from the hundreds of other relevant jobseekers.

Our app and website may assist you with your jobsearch if you are completing school and looking for part time/casual work, completing school and looking at your career and employment options, and/or looking at leaving school to pursue employment and/or a career. You may just want a job and just don’t know how to go about getting it!

‘Active’ jobsearching is the key to you securing any form of employment. Your success will depend on how much research and effort you put into the task at hand. Nothing will beat a fantastic attitude!

  • Have you thought of positive and proactive ways to think outside of the jobsearch ‘square’? Your own ‘business card’? an ad in the paper?, an ad in the window of your local shop?
  • How often do you check the Australian Job Search and or the touch screens at the Job Networks or Centrelink? If you are no longer a student, have you registered with a job network and/or private employment agencies?
  • Do you buy/see Wednesday’s and Saturday’s Bendigo Advertiser? Do you use the College’s resources regularly? Are you checking the noticeboards outside the pathways office?
  • Do you make mention to friends and family that you are looking for work? Have you organised some work experience? Have you thought about volunteering?
  • Do you have an up to date, presentable resume on hand? Do you hand deliver your resume to employers? Do you follow up on your marketing?
  • Are you persistent and follow up ‘leads’ and opportunities? Do you make regular investigative phone calls? Are you ‘cold calling’?
  • Do you thank people for assisting you? Are you following up on all your applications/enquiries? Have you offered ‘free work trials’?
  • Start collecting all your relevant certificates, letters, references, offers, achievements etc. Use a display book or a vertical file to keep them safe, together and easily referred to. You may not use them right now but you will use them.

The MIPs Team are available to all Bendigo Senior Secondary College students and their families/support people, with regard to employment options and strategies. Call in and see us in G17.
